‘The Gates Of Heaven For A Day’, 2008-2009

Drawing, pen on plastic sheet, 1800x1800mm

For the work The Gates of Heaven for a Day, imagine Buddha and Jesus Christ—the sacred origins of the Eastern and Western worlds—alongside the God who created them, a greater being who brought all things into existence for the joy of creation itself. Yet even they, bound by their ascetic natures, might welcome a rare, fleeting departure from convention—a moment to explore existence in new and unexpected forms, as animals do in their natural ways. Just as animals nourish their young, envision Buddha and Jesus Christ offering sustenance from their holy bodies to all beings in the universe, transforming divine pleasure into a tangible, nurturing presence. By painting on a transparent shower curtain, the work allows the viewer to witness the emergence of images in the space before the sheet, where lines intertwine and overlap, creating forms that are simultaneously fragile and dynamic. In this delicate interplay, the work invites reflection on the rhythms of life, the interconnectedness of all beings, and the ways in which the sacred manifests in both subtle and tangible forms.
