Be Real: 1710, 2000, 2013 examines the idea of authenticity across time, considering how identity and perception are shaped by historical context, social conditions, and lived experience. Anchored by three temporal year markers: 1710, 2000, and 2013, the work brings past, present, and speculative futures into dialogue, inviting reflection on continuity, rupture, and the ongoing pursuit of truth in everyday life. Through the multimedia work combining the painting and the installation, the artist questions fixed notions of reality, drawing attention to the roles of memory, culture, and social construction in shaping the self. By linking historical reference with contemporary inquiry, the exhibition positions “being real” as both a personal concern and a wider cultural condition.
